Alzheimer's disease, the most common form of dementia, affects close to six million people in the US and Canada alone. Due to the specialized nature of this disease, many family members find it difficult to see their loved one decline. At times, families can feel overwhelmed and angry at the diagnosis.
Studies show remaining in the home enhances life expectancy as opposed to admission to a psychogeriatric nursing home or care facility where mortality rates are high. The Amazing Angel care team of professionals recognizes that each client is unique, and this is especially true when it comes to dementia care.
Our client center approach starts with a FREE in-home assessment. A member of our qualified care team will examine the in-home care needs, review all the care options, analyze the cost of care, and implement a customized care plan.
The caregiver/client relationship is first developed in our office from information acquired during the in-home assessment. We carefully select a caregiver to be assigned to each client.
All caregivers have trained on the seven stages framework developed by Dr. Barry Reisberg from The New York School of Medicine Silberstein Aging & Dementia Research Center. Also, all caregivers receive a caregiver’s support kit featuring dementia/Alzheimer’s care information from the National Caregiving Foundation.
Every day is a new day and presents new challenges with dementia care. At Amazing Angel, client safety and well-being remain top priority!
One of the techniques our caregivers use is recording all daily activities. By recording such activities in a daily notebook, our caregivers can track changes in client behaviors, eating patterns, sleep patterns, etc. Our care team of professionals reports such changes to family members, physicians, or the hospice care team.
